AFRICLOUD cloud infrastructure platform with compute, storage, and networking services

When we launched AFRICLOUD in 2025, our goal was clear: deliver cloud servers from data centres that are actually close to the markets that need them most. We started with high-performance VPS hosting from Lisbon and Johannesburg, powered by AMD EPYC processors and NVMe storage.

That was the starting point, not the destination. Today, we are announcing that AFRICLOUD has evolved from a VPS hosting company into a full cloud infrastructure platform. Alongside our existing cloud servers, we have launched block storage, object storage, floating IPs, private networking (VPC), managed DNS, automated backups, snapshots, firewalls, cryptocurrency payments, and a complete REST API with full feature parity.

This is not a rebrand for the sake of it. The platform has been built, tested, and is ready for production workloads today.

Why We Built a Full Platform

Over the past year, we heard the same feedback from customers repeatedly: "I love the server performance and latency, but I need more." Developers and businesses running production workloads need more than a virtual machine. They need block storage for databases that outgrow their boot disk. They need floating IPs for zero-downtime deployments. They need private networking to keep internal traffic off the public internet. They need DNS hosting that does not add another 50ms of latency from a nameserver on the other side of the world.

Rather than sending our customers to a different provider for these essentials, we built them ourselves. Every service runs on our own hardware, in our own data centres, connected to our own network (AS209179). We are not reselling someone else's cloud.

What Is New

Here is a complete overview of the platform, organised by category.

Compute

Our cloud servers remain the foundation of the platform. They are powered by Dell PowerEdge servers with AMD EPYC processors (EPYC 7763 in Lisbon, EPYC 7452 in Johannesburg), NVMe storage, and KVM virtualisation for full hardware isolation. Plans range from 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM at $20/month to 16 vCPU and 64 GB RAM at $320/month, with our current promotional code (NEWCLOUD) offering 30% off.

New additions to compute include 16 one-click app templates (WordPress, Docker, LAMP, LEMP, Node.js, GitLab CE, Jitsi Meet, WooCommerce, and more), 11 operating system templates including FreeBSD 14.3, and a web console powered by noVNC for browser-based server access without requiring SSH.

Dedicated servers are also available for workloads that require full physical hardware with zero noisy neighbours. We offer Dell PowerEdge servers with Intel Xeon processors, NVMe or HDD storage, iDRAC remote management, and 2 Gbps to 10 Gbps bandwidth from our Lisbon data centre. Contact us for a custom configuration.

Storage

Block Storage lets you attach high-speed NVMe volumes to any cloud server in the same data centre. Use it for databases that need dedicated I/O, media libraries, or any workload where your boot disk is not enough. Volumes can be attached, detached, and resized without downtime, billed per GB per month.

Object Storage provides S3-compatible storage for backups, static assets, media files, and application data. It works with standard S3 tools and SDKs including aws-cli, s3cmd, and rclone, so there is no need to change your existing workflows or code.

Snapshots and Automated Backups protect your data with on-demand snapshots (capture your server state before a risky change) and scheduled backups with configurable retention. Backups are stored on dedicated infrastructure with cross-data-centre replication between Johannesburg and Lisbon for disaster recovery.

Networking

Floating IPs are elastic IP addresses that you can reassign between servers in seconds via the dashboard or API. Use them for failover, blue-green deployments, or any scenario where you need traffic to move to a different server without waiting for DNS propagation. All addresses come from AFRICLOUD's own IP space.

VPC (Private Networking) lets you create isolated private networks between servers in the same data centre. Internal traffic stays off the public internet, with no bandwidth charges on private network communication. This is essential for database servers, internal APIs, and microservice architectures.

Managed DNS runs on PowerDNS with geographically distributed authoritative nameservers: ns1 in Lisbon and ns2 in Johannesburg. All record types are supported (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA, NS), and reverse DNS (PTR) management is included for all assigned IP addresses. Every zone and record is fully manageable via the API.

Firewalls provide per-server rule management directly from the dashboard or API, giving you granular control over inbound and outbound traffic without needing to configure iptables manually.

Payments

Cryptocurrency payments are fully supported via NOWPayments, accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and over 200 other cryptocurrencies. Pay for VPS hosting, dedicated servers, and all platform services with crypto. No bank account required. Payments are processed instantly with automatic conversion, so you can deploy your server within minutes of paying with your preferred coin.

We also accept credit and debit cards via Stripe and PayPal, giving you the flexibility to pay however works best for your business.

Platform and Developer Tools

The platform includes a full REST API with complete feature parity: everything you can do in the dashboard, you can do programmatically. The API is documented with an OpenAPI specification, and API keys support 16 granular permission scopes with optional IP restriction. If you build infrastructure as code, this API is designed for you.

Team Accounts with role-based access control and project-based resource grouping let you organise infrastructure across teams and clients. OAuth single sign-on via Google and GitHub is also available.

Multi-currency billing supports five currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, ZAR, and NGN. The billing engine handles invoice-first billing, a prepaid wallet for hourly resources, promotional codes, and business tax features including EU VAT validation via VIES with automatic reverse charge.

What Stays the Same

The foundations that made AFRICLOUD worth choosing have not changed:

  • Data centres in Lisbon and Johannesburg, providing sub-100ms latency to over 40 countries across Africa, Europe, and South America
  • Our own ASN (AS209179) with 700+ BGP peers, peering at DE-CIX Lisbon, DE-CIX Madrid, INTERIX, and NAPAfrica IX
  • Enterprise hardware: Dell PowerEdge servers, AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage throughout
  • 100Gbps network capacity with transit from MEO, Hurricane Electric, Angola Cables, and Workonline
  • Competitive pricing starting at $20/month for cloud servers (currently $14/month with promotional code NEWCLOUD)

Our measured latency of 70ms between Lisbon and Fortaleza, Brazil via the EllaLink submarine cable remains one of the platform's key advantages for businesses serving South America alongside Africa and Europe.

If you are already running cloud servers with us, nothing changes for your existing infrastructure. All current services continue to work exactly as before. You now have access to additional services that you can adopt at your own pace.

Who This Platform Is For

We built this for developers, startups, and businesses who need reliable cloud infrastructure without the complexity and surprise bills of hyperscale providers. Whether you are running a SaaS application, hosting client projects, deploying a WordPress site with one click, or building a containerised microservices architecture with private networking and floating IPs, the platform has the tools you need.

The combination of strategic locations, a modern API, and a complete product set puts AFRICLOUD in the same category as DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Hetzner Cloud, with the added advantage of data centres positioned to serve Africa, Southern Europe, and South America with genuinely low latency.

What Is Coming Next

The launch of the full platform is not the end of the roadmap. Here is what we are working on:

  • Public API Documentation: A developer documentation portal with getting-started guides, code examples, and an interactive API reference
  • CLI Tool: A command-line interface for managing infrastructure from the terminal
