Why Choose Johannesburg for Your African Operations?

NAP Africa Interconnection Hub

Our data centre presence is directly connected to NAP Africa, the continent's largest Internet Exchange Point. With over 580 autonomous systems and 200+ enterprise clients, your servers benefit from the most extensive peering ecosystem in Africa. This translates to faster content delivery, reduced latency, and improved user experience across the continent.

Ultra-Low Latency to African Markets

Strategic positioning in Johannesburg provides exceptional connectivity to major African business centres. We measure ~5 ms to Gaborone (n=99, high confidence), ~8ms to Durban (n=207), ~16ms to Cape Town (n=241), ~8ms to Maputo, and ~16ms to Harare. For East African markets, optimised routing through NAPAfrica peering and terrestrial network connections.

Mining & Financial Services Optimised

Johannesburg serves as the financial and mining capital of Africa. Our infrastructure is specifically optimised for high-frequency trading, real-time data processing, and mission-critical applications that power Africa's largest industries. Benefit from dedicated network paths to major financial exchanges and mining operations.

Enterprise-Grade Security & Compliance

Hosted within Teraco's Johannesburg campus: publicly certified for ISO/IEC 27001 (information security), PCI-DSS (physical security), ISAE 3402 Type 2 (controls attestation), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and ISO 50001 (energy management). Multi-layered physical access controls, 24/7 on-site security, and direct interconnect at NAPAfrica IX inside the same campus. AFRICLOUD operates under AS209179 with RPKI route validation, IRR-based prefix filtering, BCP38 anti-spoofing, and MANRS-aligned operation implementing all four MANRS actions. Two-jurisdiction footprint (Portugal/EU and South Africa) supports regional data-residency requirements.

Test the Network Before You Buy

Our public looking glass runs ping, traceroute, MTR and DNS from Johannesburg itself, over both IPv4 and IPv6, with no account needed. Johannesburg also hosts a public RIPE Atlas anchor on our network. Measure the path from where your users actually are, at lg.africloud.com, rather than taking our numbers on trust.

World-Class Infrastructure for African Markets

High-Performance AMD EPYC Processors

Our Johannesburg presence runs on enterprise AMD EPYC compute with all-NVMe storage, built for compute-intensive workloads. It supports everything from high-frequency trading algorithms to the complex data analytics behind Africa's growing fintech sector.

Enterprise NVMe Storage with RAID10

Experience lightning-fast data access with our enterprise-grade NVMe storage infrastructure. Configured in RAID10 for maximum performance and reliability, our storage systems deliver up to 6x faster read/write speeds compared to traditional SSDs, ensuring your applications respond instantly to user demands.

High-Capacity Memory for African Workloads

With up to 1TB of RAM per server, our Johannesburg data centre presence supports the most memory-intensive applications common in African markets. From in-memory databases for financial services to virtualized environments for enterprise applications, we provide the resources needed for your business to scale.

Directly Peered Network

We run our own network, AS209179, and peer openly at NAP Africa Johannesburg. Across our six internet exchanges we exchange traffic directly with more than 850 networks, over 500 of them African, spanning more than 30 African countries. Direct peering keeps traffic local, reducing latency and improving performance for users across Southern Africa and beyond.

Redundant Power & Cooling Systems

Our Johannesburg presence sits within a campus the operator runs with N+1 redundant power and cooling.

24/7 African Support Team

Benefit from our local support team that understands African business challenges and regulatory requirements. Available 24/7, our engineers provide expert assistance with everything from initial setup to ongoing optimisation, ensuring your operations run smoothly in the African market.

Routing Practice You Can Audit

We run our own network, AS209179. Origin validation rejects RPKI-invalid routes on every session and we publish ROAs for all our prefixes. Our route and AS-set objects are registered in both the RIPE and AFRINIC routing registries. Anti-spoofing filtering is applied at every edge and passed a full CAIDA Spoofer test in March 2026, and we implement all four MANRS actions. None of that requires taking our word for it: public RPKI validators, the IRR databases and CAIDA's own published results will each confirm it independently.
